Brynja
Brynja was bred by Sarah Jones and Stan Hirson of Pine Plains Icelandics and born in 2007. Her mother is Istolts Rún and her grandmother is Melkolku Kossmo who was brought from Iceland to the United States. Her father is LoneStar Ansel. Her pedigree on the Icelandic Sheepdog Association of America website is available here.
Brynja is a medium-coat dog with an intense and alert nature. Like most Icies she's extremely smart, in fact a little too smart. She decides what needs to be done around the nursery, such as herding cars of incoming customers and we haven't been able to convince her that we know better and would prefer her not to do that.
She has a little fear of loud noises - thunderstorms are usually traumatic, though we have had good luck with a Thundershirt in calming her down.
She has a little separation anxiety, but not too bad. Really it's more that she doesn't want to be left behind and miss out on fun. Once I've left the house, and she gets her initial excessive barking episode out of the way, Diane tells me that she calms down pretty quickly and doesn't exhibit any neurotic behavior such as chewing or incessant barking.
